Scientometric analysis of Pakistan’s S&T research output

Abstract

The study analyses the research output of Pakistan for the period 2001-10 on several parameters including its growthand share in the world’s research output, pattern of research communication in core domestic and international journals,geographical distribution of publications, share of international collaborative publications at the national level as well asacross subjects and characteristics of high productivity institutions, authors and cited papers. The Scopus citation databasehas been used to retrieve the publications data for 10 years. Concludes that Pakistan needs to increase its output and bringabout improvement in the quality of its research efforts. This can be done by investing much more in R&D expenditure,increase in the deployment of more qualified manpower and in increasing international collaboration and by modernizingand strengthening its research infrastructure.
