Study of refractive index dispersion and optical conductivity of PPy doped PVC films
Abstract
The refractive index (n), dispersion and optical conductivity (σopt) of undoped and PPy doped PVC films have been studied. The PPy doped PVC films are prepared by solution cast technique with various concentrations of PPy (6% to 20%) in PVC. The optical absorption spectra of these films have been recorded in the wavelength range 400-900 nm at room temperature. Optical parameters such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), real (εʹ) and imaginary (εʹʹ) parts of complex permittivity, optical conductivity (σopt) and infinitely high frequency dielectric constant (ε∞) have been evaluated. It is seen that the optical properties of PVC have been affected on doping it with PPy. The average refractive index (n), infinitely high frequency dielectric constant (ε∞) and optical conductivity (σopt) of the samples exhibit a nonlinear compositional dependence as observed in many amorphous materials.
